Breyyne's Beginner's guide to RPGMXP

I'm composing this guide because some of us don't know how to respond to New Members asking for help on many basic concepts, Some don't have time with projects to help and some just don't know how to react to new members forgetting that they were new once too.

First thing you want to learn about is the Event window.

1-Event Name: This has no affect on the game play itself but makes things easy later when you have to edit something. Give it a meaningful name.
2-Page Functions: All but you basic NPC Events will need 2 or more pages.
3-Conditions Block: This is were you set what will cause the current page to be active. You may have Any combination of the conditions. Switches are Game wide but have only On/Off options. Variables are also game wide and can be any number. Self Switches is are limited only to the Event.
4-Graphics Window: This is were you choose what the event will be represented by if anything. You can pick any character set loaded into the game or and segment of your maps current tile set. Double click to open the option window.
5-Movement Block: This is where you set your event's movement if any.
6-Options Block: Various options for your event.
7-Trigger Block: Lets you set how the event is activated. The player pressing the action button facing it, By touch, or starting up when the Map is in use.
8-Command Window: This is the meat of your Event. This is where you tell the Event what to do and how. Let's Explore some options. Right click to add new lines.

Graphics Window

Options for Event's appearance everything from Heroes to Monsters to inanimate objects.

NPC (Non-Player Character) Event

A NPC is any character in your game that isn't being played directly by the player. This could be anything from the village mutt to the regal king himself. In some cases your player's own party members may be NPC for moments when the Hero just has to do it solo.

Shop Event

Every Hero will have to buy supplies sooner or later and this is how you set it up for them.
Choose a look for your shopkeeper. You can add greetings or surely attitude. But the Shop is setup by selecting Shop Processing on the command list

Then Right click to add to your list of purchasable items.

Transfer Event

Soon your Hero will want to explore the world and get out of town. You allow this by using the "Transfer player" command. You can place this event and the end of a road at the edge of your map or at a door in town.

This window allows you to pick where you player is transfered to.

Treasure Event
Treasure Events require a little bit more care. Unless you want you player to have an unlimited supply of treasure.

On the first page, you set up the treasure for receiving. But don't forget to set a self switch.

One the second page, you can do what ever you like to tell the player that it is empty, but make sure the self switch option is set or they will never see this part of the event in action.

And Now, What is a RPG with out monsters.
First let's set up the monsters.

In the Troop Database you setup groups of monsters that will appear together. You May notice that part of it looks like the event window. That is becuase you can setup Event like actions for each group to perform each time they show up.

There is a couple ways to set up monsters.

One is a controlled fashion used mainly for Boss fights. This is by using an event.

You can add banter and flavor just like a NPC but it's the "Battle Processing" Command that makes this event a Fight.

The Second is Random encounters.
These are set in the map properties.
Right click on the Map you want to add monsters to in the bottom left window.

Right click on the Encounters to add more monsters. They will be listed by the groups that you created.
